Andrew Nacin had been considering joining public service for a few years, but it wasn’t until he was pitched to help reform the immigration system that he finally made up his mind.

Nacin worked on a mixture of longer-term projects, like digitizing  immigration processes, and shorter, more urgent ones, like the Office of Personnel Management data breach. His work spanned more than a dozen cabinet departments and independent agencies. 

Nacin talks about USDS efforts at the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the similarities between open-source communities and the federal government, and how to effectively hijack a meeting.
