Germaine Gabriel came to the USDS after working alongside U.S. Chief Information Officer Steven VanRoekel, who helped create the organization. Germaine began at USDS as an assistant to the Administrator, but her legal background and past experience with the White House Counsel allowed her to contribute to policy-related issues, as well.
During her time at USDS, Germaine helped secure funding for the organization’s next calendar year. She also had a window into USDS’s complicated hiring process, and smoothed out the relationship between USDS and the Office of Management and Budget. Below, Germaine discusses her biggest achievement, burnout, and how public service shaped her perception of government.
